I used Ubuntu back around 5.04 and 5.10. It took a bit of frigging to get the PC working completely. I lost interest.
Just recently, I had an older laptop (AMD E2-7110)that struggled with Win10, so decided to switch it to Linux for something to do.
When I looked around, most reviewers were pretty glowing about Mint. Ubuntu/Kubuntu reviews were pretty tepid.
I went with Mint. Install was slick, no driver or hardware issues. Performance was a massive improvement.
