To elaborate further, he wrote of a gelded world a stone's throw from an impending apocalypse, that is the lens you should be looking at it from. The spiritual landscape has been made female dominated through corruption of male energy by an evil outsider entity, which has caused similar repercussions to echo in the physical scape. Doesn't that ring any bells to you?

It is unfortunate that he died before he finished the series because it was mishandled by the author his editors picked to finish his work. The one solace we have is that the final book's most important parts were pre-written by him as he knew his death approached. So the most spiritually relevant passages are unmarred by unnecessary action and quips. As you read it you recognize the parts pre-written by him and the parts written by the failure that finished the series.
The ending of the series leaves a world scarred by coming close to the brink of destruction. However you know that the seeds of healing and hope have been planted, which ultimately is a very positive ending. (there's a clear divide there between the healing of the spirit and the healing of the flesh which can be observed)
