The other huge difference is, that in Germany the counting needs to be _observable_. This has grave implications:
1. everybody must be allowed and free to watch the tallies. No secret backroom tallying
2. voting machines are unconstitutional, because by definition you can't observe them counting the ballots.
That also means in Germany you can't count mail-in ballots prior the closing of the polling places. And still we know our results a few hours in.
