That's an interesting angle, and I should have thought of it as my assumption always was that they have a policy not to buy out free speech sites because they want to discourage them. Fuckedcompany being the prototypical example - rather than buy the site they bribed the creator of the site with a new startup so that not one in a million people would notice that he had been bought off to shut it down.
I believe it is going to intentionally go down in a humiliating fashion in order to discourage future free speech sites.
