Having an alternate means of long range communication, specifically something like the daily Maritime Mobile Net on 20m, means someone can relay communication for you, if you are cut off.
Or, if you are around, you are able to relay communication from others who may need help.
LoRa and all that is sort of okay for local text messages, but is not going to help much if you are more remote.
