If I have four quarter notes playing indefinitely in succession how am I supposed to tell them apart from three quarter notes playing indefinitely in succession?
Apparently there's something called emphasis or accent. For the longest time I was frustrated when people explained to me: "Listen, it feels different: <ONE two THREE four ONE two THREE four>, versus <ONE two three ONE two three>"
Yes, because there you are doing something but on paper it's still black dots in succession.
Anyways, apparently this accent or emphasis thing is something that exists that no one ever explained to me properly.
