I even compiled my own instance of it to test - can't remember what the node modules size came out at but it was over 14GB for the build, crazy! I suspect most people building it would be node.js people anyway so a lot of those modules are already installed. I'm not a node.js person, so everything downloaded as new - it's too much!
(My Pleroma builds at under 1GB for reference, and compiles to about 400MB)
