VCs investing into a base layer network is *literally* a kiss of death, for a lot of reasons. Some of them are:
1. Forces monetization of the network
2. Network must be legalized into a company
3. Company must have known founders and team
4. #1, #2, #3 allow external actors to pressure the company to abandon neutrality
5. A VC-bought community never has the engagement of a grassroots community
These *especially* apply to base layer *social* networks.
Nothing against companies, VC, equity investing, etc… but these things are better suited for apps **on top of** a credibly neutral L1.
