I've put the three I've mentioned through their paces (the latter two more recently). FreeCAD and openSCAD are both good.
Sketchup 2017 has oddities, but it's the best (fastest) free desktop tool for stick framing that I've found that can change the units to imperial.
FreeCAD is functionally locked to metric, and openSCAD is unitless. You can program around it, but the units cannot be changed to imperial on either (AFAIK).
