I started looking at the insane lengths schools in the USA are going to in order to make "Lockdown Drills" realistic. We're talking about kids, from 3 to 18, being put through unannounced "drills" that involve (in some cases) fake blood and the sound of gunfireΒΉ
Trauma is NOT the point of drills. Kids are supposed to be learning what to do and where to go, not being made to viscerally believe that they are about to die. Muscle memory, not PTSD.
One article from USA Today stated that the chances of being murdered in a school shooting was 1 in 10,000,000 β turns out that is lousy reporting. For a start, they only include students murdered on campus during school hours; a little bit selective. A child injured is not unaffected; a child who's best friend has been murdered or injured is not unaffected. A child who watches their teacher bleed out on the classroom floor is not unaffected.
The real numbers give a child 1 chance in 48,000 of being injured or murdered in a school shooting. That's insanity. The number of traumatised children will be much, much higher.
