People believe weird stuff with or without organized religion. We're just kind of wired for some level of bug nutty. Religion gets used as an excuse, but it really is just an excuse.

The weirdest part is that the MAGA beliefs don't even fully square with the religion they're claiming, but no one notices. The Nazis swapped the Old Testament for Norse mythology and Norse gods. They claimed Jesus was Aryan by way of some cracked-out mental gymnastics. People went along like that made sense somehow.

I feel confident saying one could try to stamp out religion and people would still do crazy, authoritarian, and racist things. They'd just find new excuses. 🤷🏼
