Signal is OK and a huge trade up from spy platforms like WhatsApp or unencrypted crap like Telegram. But if you fear targeted surveillance or wish to communicate anonymously, trade up to SimpleX.
I dislike them holding back source code and not being upfront that usernames just hide phonenumbers in the stock app.
