A lot of people don't want to support Meta in any way, so making it sound like that rejecting Meta means also rejecting new ideas is kinda a straw man here.
Saying that, the people developing Mastodon and/or the AP protocol should probably be more open minded to new ideas, but that doesn't mean people have to accept the presence of Meta, which in the most likely case doesn't have good intentions.
