My oldest friend tells me
she is feeling anxious
about the election,
she explains she is worried
that tomorrow
cruelty and selfishness
shortsightedness and apathy
will win,
but as I sit here
in this ongoing pandemic
I can’t help but worry
that they’ve already won.
