Finally!! After about two years, a new AV-receiver, some experimenting and rejiggering and borrowing some tools from work, my new speaker stands are complete!

Drilled three holes through all of them. Ran a metal rod through two of the holes and tightened them with bolt nuts. Then I ran the speaker cable through the third hole.
