Question: at a quick glance, all the SMS-from-Linux demos I can see rely on SAAS gateways as intermediaries, which I find undesirable.
If I have a device with a standardish 4G cellular modem in it, and feed it some standard, airport-vending-machine SIM card, can I not - should I not be able to - send and receive SMS texts to that number, on a standard linux box?
(I happen prefer wrangling exotic hardware with magic incantations to freemium-model dependencies. I know. It's my thing.)
