Anyone know if stuff like this happens with #bsd systems like FreeBSD, OpenBSD or NetBSD ?
I had a similar experience where moving a Linux drive between identical HP mini computer resulted in Linux not booting and I couldn't repair it.
It would boot if moved to a ThinkCentre, but just could not be seen in either HP mini, even though it was originally installed on one of them.

quoting nevent1q…4fdmAgree with Jeff here. Last night I did an overdue UEFI update on my Linux desktop. Afterwards the boot entry for grub was gone and the system no longer booted. I had to write an Arch ISO to a flash drive, boot off that, and recreate the entry with `efibootmgr`—not a user friendly experience.
Having said that, I still think Linux is the best OS for developers and the tech savvy, assuming you don't need to use platform specific tools like Xcode.
