Suzette Baker, from unincorporated Kingsland in Texas, is officially a “Champion of Writers.” She is the first recipient of the Authors Guild’s new award, which recognizes librarians fighting book bans. In 2022 she was fired from her job as a Llano County librarian after resisting orders to ban books. In response, library patrons sued the county to have books restored to shelves, and won. Texas Observer (npub1xf8…0uw6) spoke to Baker about books, censorship, and the support she’s had from fellow librarians.
