In any large community, there are going to be people who behave in a way that other people do not like.

There are plenty of examples of that in the fediverse, and it’s not a Mastodon-specific issue. My domain blocks, for example, and nearly all of non-Mastodon servers.

Blocking people is not ideal, as it puts the burden on you / your mod team, but doing so is not something for which you should be criticised. You haven’t failed when you’ve blocked someone for self-care.
