My quasi single user instance doesn't outright block but has threads on limit. It doesn't show up on the timelines at all, but if you want to, you can go and subscribe to someone over there, and only you will see it. I have yet to have someone on threads I'd like to follow.
Given how I don't have a VAST AMOUNT of users to protect, and don't generally intend to boost threads, that seemed like a happy middle ground.
