From about 2017 to about 2022, there was a huge american, and at some level international, conversation about racism, sexism, patriarchy, white supremacy, and so on. That played out in large part on social media. I think it's not a coincidence that this is also when the largest part of the fediverse was established.
The culture here is mainly characterized by having opted out of that conversation. Every single discussion here has to start over at square 1 on these topics, and it is *exhausting*
