This article https://www.wired.com/story/monitor-ultrasonic-sounds-reveal-content-side-channel/ says it's only 30 feet, not miles. That's still a large enough radius that you could easily miss a hidden microphone, though.

Electronics, like screens and computers, also produce electromagnetic emissions that can be captured at a distance. I was hearing about that attack back in the early 2000s.
