Since I wrote this note three weeks ago I have come to understand that kind 1111 notes are not intended to be used for kind-1 replies. If you read the PR, lots and lots of comments presume that the whole point was so that clients could fetch only root notes via kind 1 and fetch replies via kind 1111. That was what I was presuming when I wrote this note. But I understand now that this is not how it turned out.
I will probably remove this kind from gossip feeds (but not from reposts or threads).
