npub183n8fp0xavfvuejszsfzkf44af77j6xfgmk33k2whm7ktflcr4jqswtahh (npub183n…tahh) When the twitter migration happened and we were flooded with lots of users, what actually happened is that a high volume of people just made accounts on the affected servers, probably using apps like debirdify to automatically follow one another, making sure they pinn their instance and username to the top of their profile, so that their whole follower circle can see it, and follow them with their fedi accounts. However, this isn't the same. People aren't making accounts on instances, it's still instagram. Trafic from instagram doesn't reach your server unless people on your server follow accounts from there, and even so, the amount you actually get is directly proportional to the amount of people following in that space. So no, we won't have anything like that again, because you can't just throw stuff in the void and a server would pick it up, you gotta specifically direct the activity towards an actor, aka an actual user. Same for tumbler, flicker whatever that is, etc
