I used to have a high voice for a man and got called "ma'am" a few times by people who weren't looking at me, including once a woman in a military restaurant who about shit herself in panic when she looked up. I thought that kind of fear was over the top. Who even cares? It's obvious what I am and I know what my voice is like. I studiously ignored incidents like this.
These people want to control others' speech to satisfy some pointless fantasy about a magical 'gender' that's impossible to observe because it's not based in biology at all, and want to make it a really big deal.
If pronouns are so important, can these motherfuckers stop defaulting to 'they' if you don't know someone's sex? That's a 'pronoun' as well, I'm informed, and it's the single most aggravating one.
