I find this to he an ambiguous question that can only be answered in terms of how it is interpreted. To me, I see many people writing, except for money, under a variety of contexts. If you mean, only wrote with the idea of getting paid, then he's flat out wrong. Many things are written with no possibility of getting paid for it.
