300 years ago yesterday, an inventory was made of the content of the travelling chest of Joachim Christopher Blumenthal, merchant of the Hanseatic Kontor in Bergen, Norway.
Along with coats, gloves, handkerchiefs, a black fox fur coat, books, brandy, a tea pot, a mirror and 24 Reichstaler in cash, he also had three wigs. Ah, the powdered wig!
