Henry 'Box' Brown was a celebrated Black abolitionist and magician. In 1849, he famously escaped slavery by “mailing himself to freedom” in a 3 foot long box (by rail, steamboat and wagon 😨) to abolitionists in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Fearing re-enslavement, he moved to England, & spent the last decade of his life in Toronto. 😢
Now, in historic Old Toronto,
