Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS is a bit of a dud. Mostly works, alas, critical little things don't. In order of increasing annoyance:
1. Can't get sound through any microphone except the built-in one.
2. Upon reboot and login, the screen hangs black with an 'X' cursor. Have to push meta+L to lock the screen and login again to access the desktop.
3. Using the updater ignores my settings regarding snap vs apt package repository priorities, so e.g., Firefox got installed via snap. No wonder it wasn't working well, with random issues with focus on textfields not working.
I haven't had any issues anywhere near this severe since before 2006, when Ubuntu 6.06 LTS largely just worked.
