What would you say is the essential game play?
If you can boil it down to its essence, then you'll be able to get started. But, if you try to completely replicate it, in its full richness from the beginning, then it will be like lifting a 1000 lbs weight xD
My guess would be, the essence is staying out of the vision, of patrolling enemies?
