Maradona was a drug addict who was friends with Castro, Chávez and other communists and died in poor health because he would never give up drugs; while Messi is a very stable genius.
First world nations like the USA would never overvalue an athlete, so this might be hard to convey; but the left hating Messi has damaged their image. If this were ancient Greece, hating Messi would be like hating Achilles.
