In recent days, I have removed myself from two Facebook groups. I did so because each group seems to have a pervasive dismissive (even animus) attitude toward those who are not of their particular church.
The first group I left is Catholic. Many members of that group have nothing but contempt for non-Catholics, even if they are Christians.
And many in the second group, a Lutheran group, (I am not Lutheran myself) are equally dismissive toward non-Lutherans.
Sheesh! I often wonder if those in these groups (and many others like them) will still be brandishing their particular doctrines when we all share the same prison cells during the soon-coming persecution of ALL Christians – regardless of our labels.
Anyway, I left those groups because, frankly, I do not have time or energy to expend any longer on backbiting and fratricide. I mean, if we were talking about non-CHRISTIANS such as LDS Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses, that would be certainly worth evangelical discussion.
But it is STUNNING to me that many of the posts placed in the Lutheran group toward non-Lutheran Christians could EASILY have been written – virtually WORD for WORD – by Catholics toward non-Catholic Christians.
That reality really opened my eyes.
In a few short months, I will be 74 years old. I do not know how much time I have left to do what God has called me to do. But of this I AM certain:
God has not called me to judge another man’s servant. To his own master, he will stand or fall, and he will stand because the Lord is able to make him stand (see Romans 14).
In the remaining time that God gives me, I want to do nothing but preach Jesus Christ, crucified, resurrected, and coming soon for a holy church – a church that is busy about the work of the kingdom. And that work is NOT trying to convert other Christians to their particular group. The work of the kingdom is winning the LOST to Christ.
