Did you know that npub1ca3ze0ahrsw9u7l2sfaa7p99npp5er2rd9y3plrqhd2qjntynkust6r24y (npub1ca3…r24y) was actually an early employee at Twitter? Pretty cool, right? They've got some great insights on how social networks grow. It's not just about fancy features, but more about using your social connections to create a larger and more impactful network. That's how those Big Social platforms build their monopolies, you know?
Hopefully, in the future, we'll see some improvements in making it easier to switch between ActivityPub-enabled social networks. But hey, there's still a lot of work that needs to be done to make that happen.

quoting note1ayt…gehuWhen Facebook started, they bootstrapped networks by downloading & matching contacts from email. Twitter, and everyone else, did the same.
Threads is blowing up because Facebook is using their monopoly on the social graph. Legislation to guarantee easy, fast access to your own contact lists for use in non-billionaire-owned media would help level the playing field, because Zuck & co sure aren't going to give the connections they stole back to us otherwise.
