FYI if you're in the US you may be able to write off your gym membership as a medical expense if you get your provider to word it correctly. May not be able to write the whole year off, but at least some of it. Not advice just something I found interesting.

Do your own research and verification and contact your CPA disclaimer....but this is what Venice AI gave me as a starting point

"The IRS section that covers medical expenses, including gym fees, is:

Section 213 of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC): This section allows taxpayers to deduct medical expenses that are not covered by insurance, including expenses for:

Diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease
Treatment of a physical or mental defect or illness
Expenses for equipment, supplies, and services related to medical care
Specifically:

Section 213(d)(1)(A): Allows deductions for "amounts paid for the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease" which includes expenses for exercise programs and gym memberships if prescribed by a physician.
Section 213(d)(1)(B): Includes "expenses for equipment and supplies" related to medical care.
Treasury Regulation § 1.213-1(e): Provides guidance on what constitutes a "medical expense" and states that:

"Expenses incurred in connection with an individual's efforts to improve his general health... are not deductible under section 213."
However, if an individual has a specific medical condition and their doctor recommends exercise as part of their treatment plan, the costs associated with that exercise program may be deductible.
IRS Publication 502 (Medical and Dental Expenses): This publication provides detailed guidance on what medical expenses are deductible under Section 213. According to Publication 502:

Gym membership fees may be deductible if they are part of a doctor-recommended exercise program.
The costs of joining a health club or fitness center may be deductible if they are primarily for therapeutic purposes.
Keep in mind that these rules can change over time. Always consult with an accountant or tax professional to ensure compliance with current IRS regulations."
