>Apparently biologists only refer to Amphibians™️ as amphibian, while calling mammals aquatic, semiaquatic or marine.
Not so! "Aquatic mammals" is a media term, not a real scientific term, and has no relation to the term "amphibious" which is scientific. This is marineland and zoo shit.
Whales used to be called aquatic mammals by charity orgs, but then as those charity orgs got involved with seals too (very cute photos), the term was applied to them. Even though seals are "amphibious" and now a distinction has to be made between amphibious aquatic mammals and obligate aquatic mammals.
Apes would be amphibious mammals (I refuse to use the media term) since 99% of the lifecycle is on land.
