Things we don't buy or purchase, but still consume regularly:
- soda water. I have a 20lb CO2 tank I make carbonated water with. 2l costs me 1.5 cents to make.
- mayonnaise. I make my own, have for 10 years
- bread. I bake loaves and buns twice a week. 15-20min labour, about 3 hour process
- tomato sauces (incl pizza sauce): I grow about 60-75kg of tomatoes each year, and can and process them for winter consuming
- flatbreads. I make them once a week. Crazy easy, and I use our garden herbs
- various sauces / spreads like hummus, pesto, antipasto, etc. Make from scratch + stuff we grow. I make about 5kg of pesto each summer, and freeze it for winter use
- pasta: I make all my own pasta, from spaghetti to ravioli.
There's probably a few more, but those are the main ones, and they probably save about $150-$200 off our grocery bill every month. And taste better.
