Sad news that legendary musician Steve Beresford is struggling financially and asking for support. There's a crowdfunding page here if you can help: https://gofund.me/c5ebbad2
One of the things I like about London is the strangeness of bumping into such influential and talented people. Steve has been a key figure in the UK improv scene since the mid 70s. He worked with The Slits. Was in the group Alterations. I've seen countless performances both solo and in collaboration, including a great duo with Rie Nakajima and a recent impromptu jam with Maria Chavez.
His playing style is unique, blending elements of classical and popular music with more abstract sound and extended technique. often getting inside the piano with objects and contact mics. I've seen him play sets with a table full of toys, a sampler and a pitch shifter. Or piano-only improvisations that can go in all sorts of directions. Often there are silly dadaist actions which not everyone can pull off.
It's upsetting so see someone so experienced and well regarded in the scene to be struggling financially. hopefully this crowdfunder will help him out for a bit.
