i think some people take it too far. I can make strong arguments for why other translations are good. I personally read one i find easy to read, but i cross reference multiple when the verse is "sticky" shall we say.
But some of the NIV stuff I've seen, it's impossible to say it was written for any other reason than to be extremely subversive. Completely changing the entire context of what they wrote.
