I had trouble reading books because my mind would wander. Somehow I managed to get an education but it was tough and I somehow got by without completing much of the required readings. It wasn’t until I was 47 that I sought help at a time when I had 2 jobs, both forcing me to learn completely new skills (web development, databases, etc); it was brutal so for many years I took adhd medication because I could not cope otherwise. I no longer take meds for that but I think some of my other meds slow my brain down and between that, my awareness of my issues, and becoming better at stopping interruptions, I can manage ok at least part of the time. Interruptions were always a huge issue for me. It was hell.
