Groundwater depletion is destroying rivers as springs that were once year-round dry up. This affects downstream ecosystems. As they dry out, they become more susceptible to fires and disease.
So much groundwater is being pumped that it even contributes to sea level rise and affects the spin of the earth!

This is one of the win-win issues that can unite people on both sides of the climate change controversy. As President I am going to support a transformation of American agriculture.
Regenerative practices not only require less water for irrigation, but they dramatically increase soil infiltration rates and water absorption and retention. With the right practices, farmland can contribute to aquifer recharge.
