It always impresses me that pretty much every semester I teach there is one student who sends me an email basically saying "I didn't do anything all semester because of [insert long detailed horrible situation], but if you open all the assignments for me I'll do it all in the last 24 hours of the class!"
Is this common? Do other instructors get this? It's always a hard choice, I'd rather have them do some of the coursework than nothing, but this isn't the best way to learn...
