My wife's 98 year old grandmother always hated being photographed. She finally revealed why!
The flash reminded her of when she was photographed by the Nazi's in the concentration camp after being caught running messages for the resistance in Italy as a teenager.
All 4'11" / 97 lbs. of her spent a month in the belly of a Tuna boat to come here after marrying a GI. The GI left after after the 11th child was born leaving her in the sticks to raise them on her own.
There are strong people but not many STRONG people!
