it's very comfortable to think that tech is politically and socially neutral. it's not at all accurate but it is comfortable.
the reality we've all taken a long time to get to is that there is no such thing as tech that doesn't have social, finanicial, and political impact. another hard truth to swallow is that there is no purely technical solution to social problems or human nature. ignore human nature and society at your peril.
we don't need to be politicians or sociologists but we can't keep pretending that we don't need to be cognisant of how the tech we build can be used and abused.
