It's always been one of their main goals because there are only two groups in communism (workers and capitalists), and a border implies that there are more than two different groups of people (workers and capitalists on one side of the border, or the other). There is one group of commies aiming to unite all of the world's workers, and another aiming to unite all of the world's capitalists, and they both hate borders.
