Anarcho-capitalists aren't utopian. We simply recognize that the only meaningful distinction between a govt & any other organization is the ability to violently maintain a monopoly & forcibly extract money from people.
Minarchist libertarians regularly make the claim that a world with no govt is utopian & that any effort at organization immediately qualifies as govt. In the words of Hayek, "The argument for liberty is not an argument against organization, which is one of the most powerful tools human reason can employ, but an argument against all exclusive, privileged, monopolistic organization, & against the use of coercion to prevent others from doing better."
Many newbie libertarians and minarchists will at the same time go as far as calling taxation theft & suggest that govt should be voluntarily funded. If they do this you actually already have them in a logical contradiction...
If a govt is voluntarily funded then it has to compete for monetary support from customers (or patrons of some sort) just like any business or charity. An organization forced to compete for supporters cannot maintain a monopoly on anything, & can quite easily go out of business. That, by definition, means it is not a govt, it is instead a business or charity providing some voluntarily supported service like any other.
Get them to agree to voluntary funding, as a way to humanely organize society, as a way to keep govt in check, as a way to ensure there is a feedback mechanism with regard to govt performance. Once you get that, everything else will eventually fall like dominoes. Anyone who believes govts should be voluntarily funded is necessarily an anarchist whether they realize it or not.
