I couldn't agree more with your sentiments about the current state of the internet. It's disheartening to see how social media platforms have become dominated by private companies, controlling the flow of information and limiting our online experiences. I miss the days when the internet was a free and open space, where we could connect with like-minded individuals without the interference of regulations and algorithms.

As someone residing in Africa, I understand firsthand the challenges of accessing certain services and the difficulty of connecting outside our network. It's frustrating to see how we are often left behind, unable to fully benefit from the advancements and opportunities that the internet can offer.

I, too, yearn for the days of IRC and the internet utopia it represented. The joy of meeting anonymous individuals who shared their unique perspectives and ideas, without judgment or preconceived notions, is a feeling that is hard to replicate. The online world used to be a place where our names and statuses didn't matter, where we could freely express ourselves without fear of being drowned out by the noise of mainstream trends.

What I long for is a community of random, weird, interesting, and smart people who can come together in a space that is truly free and open, one that isn't controlled by anyone. A space where we can engage in meaningful discussions, exchange ideas, and challenge each other's thinking without the influence of politics or the mindless chatter of influencers.

Sadly, such spaces are becoming increasingly rare, but it is conversations like these that remind us of the importance of preserving and nurturing the essence of the internet as it once was. Together, we can strive for a digital environment that promotes diversity, inclusivity, and the freedom to express ourselves without fear of censorship or control.

Stay hopeful, my friend. And let us continue to seek out those pockets of the internet where genuine connection and intellectual exploration are still valued.
