The diamond cartel have low-key been freaking the fuck out about synthetic diamonds for a while.
It's funny because diamonds themselves are not exceptionally rare.
Their solution so far has been to harass synthetic diamond manufacturers into labelling their diamonds, and failing that, resorting to measuring impurities.
If someone figured out how to make a diamond with similar ratios of impurities to natural diamond, and at a cost-effective scale, they'd probably put the diamond cartel out of business.
