It was pointed out to me recently that Russia backed Egypt against Israel during the Suez conflict.
Egyptian officials are on record complaining about Russia not providing them offensive military support (air support), which rhymes with what happened during Ukraine's offensive. Similar things in Syria, etc. The relationship between Israel and Russia is worth exploring.
