Only a small minority of women who call themselves feminists are communists. I was intrigued to learn that the term "feminism" (or, in French, "féminisme") was coined by the French utopian socialist Charles Fourier. He had ideas that I don't support at all, such as splitting young adults into two groups, one of which will have sex with just about anyone. This group provides charitable sex to those who are not young or attractive enough to find a mate.
I don't think most people today know that feminism is a socialist or communist concept, though. I think the word is used in many different ways, to describe any movement focused on women, or even movements that are for "everyone."
When I say I'm a "feminist," I mean I support women organizing together for mutual benefit. This does not preclude women sometimes organizing with men; I actually think it is best if we get together with men on some "all human" issues. However, I think we also need our own thing. I think economic issues can be discussed in feminist circles, but I don't think any one economic model should be classed as "the feminist one," leaving us unable to continue debating or to take new information or new circumstances into consideration.
