... this is a really disingenuous comparison. What they're describing is the BlurSky equivalent of hosting a single-tenant fediverse server like GoToSocial, which doesn't have a built-in web app. Which is just as much of a "simple commoditized service".
The difference is, if you host GoToSocial under your own domain name, you control your network identity. If you host an AT Proto PDS, the BlurSky "broker" still controls your network identity.
